If you expect the glossy white interior and neat translucent product labels to be an indication of the type of products that Studio Brillantine sells, then you would in all likelihood be thrown off. The compact store space offers an abounding selection of all things trendy, humorous, and generally well designed. The cool white furnishings and clear labels wonderfully compliment the products in a gallery-like setting.
Although Studio Brillantine has been around since ’97, they’re still relatively new to the Village of Parkdale, only occupying the store space since 2008. The name Studio Brillantine was conceptualized by owner Ferdinand Suzara for an art project back in his school days. Equipped with a fine arts background, the always jovial Ferdinand fills his store with products chosen on functionality, historical significance, emotional/visual impact, quality, innovation and overall aesthetics. With the belief that museum gift shops were too serious and seemingly crafted from cookie cutter molds, Studio Brillantine looks to bring some lightheartedness humour to the spirited store space. At the end of the day, Ferdinand just has two simple goals for the patrons of his store – leaving them surprised and putting smiles on their faces.
