When talking about independent bookstores in Toronto, one that will surely come out in the conversation would be TYPE Books. The independent bookstores (2 locations to be exact) have bestowed upon themselves the title of the unofficial “friendly neighbourhood bookstore”. The two locations – in the hearts of Queen West and Forest Hill – were strategically chosen to ensure that they were sited in literate neighbourhoods with a strong sense of community. Walking inside the stores, you will realize that the stores are an embodiment of just that. The staff at TYPE is friendly and knowledgeable and they carry an ample selection of books particularly in the art and fashion genre. TYPE also carries an interesting array of magazines and there’s even a section for the kids. Everything in the shop down to the graphic stenciling on the walls help convey TYPE Books’ image of being a cozy bookstore unifying local community.
